Virtual Assignments

Dear Parent:

Due to the winter weather impacting our ability to attend school, we will be utilizing the “Virtual Day” option to make up the school day that we missed.  The State of Indiana requires all school corporations to be in session 180 days.  With our snow make up days and our virtual days, we will be able to meet our corporation expectation.

Make up day planned:
January 5, 2017
Outside of Regular School Day – Virtual lesion will be distributed on:

January 17:  Lessons will be given to students on January 17, and work will take place after school hours through January 23.  Due date will be Tuesday, January 24.

During the “virtual” education time, the state requires that students do the assignments given to them by their teachers, just as they would on a normal school day – except that all or parts of the lessons involve accessing online learning systems or other internet-related resources, as dictated by their teachers. Teachers will be available for specified time periods during the week to help students. Students will be able to access teacher help through their online Learning Management System, email, telephone, Google Chat, etc.  Teachers will inform their students the times and appropriate way to contact when support is needed.  We also have this specific information posted on our school website.

At Thompkins Middle School, each of your child’s teachers will notify students and families how the Virtual Days will work for their classes and times teachers will be available for assistance. Students lacking internet access should inform their teachers.   Teachers can assist with locations for internet access.

Community Partners are also planning to have internet accessible for children.  Below is a list of partners that have offered their facilities so that students would have access to computers and internet.
The Boys and Girls Club
The Cream Center
Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library (all branches)
YMCA
Carver Community Center – Available Monday – Friday
Blue Grass Church
United Methodist Church (call 812-867-3997)

Sincerely,

Nichole Alcorn, Principal
